Martin Grelle

Martin Grelle

Martin Grelle was born and raised in the foothills surrounding his hometown of Clifton, Texas, where he grew up with a deep desire to capture on canvas the beauty of his home.  He began drawing and painting at an early age and was fortunate to have James Boren, CA, as a mentor.  Martin had his first one-man show within a year of graduating from high school in 1973.

Martin became a member of the Cowboy Artists of America (CAA) in 1995.  Working primarily in oils on canvas, his passion for the Old West is evident in the striking landscapes he portrays.  In the more than forty years since that first one-man show, he has produced some thirty one-man exhibitions and has won awards of both regional and national importance.  Martin has also been featured in a number of publications throughout his career, including multiple appearances in numerous periodicals devoted to art of the American West, and was listed in True West magazine’s 2011 Best of the West Source Book.

Beyond his studio, Martin strives to pass on what others have passed to him.  He has given multiple demonstrations around the country and mentors other aspiring artists.  Martin’s work is represented by the Legacy Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ.  He and his wife, Joyce, live outside of their hometown of Clifton.  Between them, they have five grown children and two grandchildren.
