2016 Spieler Lifetime Achievement Award

Punky & Wally Penberthy

Punky and Wally Spieler Award

The Bosque Arts Center honored Wally and Punky Penberthy with the Joan Spieler Lifetime Achievement Award at the 34th Annual Big Event April 9.

After giving a background on the origin of the Spieler Award, host Bryan Davis turned the mic over to Martin Grelle, who lauded the many contributions made by the Penberthys.

Since moving to Bosque County in 2000, Wally and Punky have been active members in all areas of BAC and have remained a guiding force in every aspect of the organization. Punky has served three terms as President of the Art Council, and chaired the numerous annual art workshops featuring nationally recognized artists for several years. She has also served two terms on the BAC Board as well as two terms as BAC President. She has worked in some capacity with the annual Big Event fundraiser each year since moving here, serving at auction chair twice and general chair two years as well. A member of the Bosque Chorale, Punky has served two years as chair of the Civic Music Association. She has worked as a coordinator for the Culinary Club several years and has served as tablescapes chairperson for two years with the Arts of Christmas.

Wally has served one term on the BAC Board and functioned as building chairman. He also served two years as president of the Art Council. Longtime Art Patrons and Tin Building Theatre patrons, Wally and Punky are currently serving as co-chairs of the Reach Up & Reach Out building campaign.

Grelle concluded his inventory of contributions by the Penberthys with their extensive civic and church involvements.

“And on a personal note,” he added, “she has brought me more home-cooked meals than I can count.”
