Steve Atkinson

Steve Atkinson is a nationally recognized western artist whose passion is in telling those little-known stories of cowboys and the American West, with authenticity along with his unique perspective, and a dash of humor.  He particularly loves painting plein air.  

He grew up in Eastern Ohio and attended Kent State University.  For 25 years he was as an illustrator, creating images for large companies and magazines.  Along the way he took classes and workshops from the best fine artists.  He always planned he would someday become a fine art western artist which he achieved in 2008.

Steve is a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America, and has won numerous awards including a Silver Medal and “Award of Excellence” from the OPA, the “John Steven Jones Award” at the Bosque Arts Center, and “Best in Show” from the Artists of the American West.  He has received awards from the Pippen Museum Western Art Show & Sale, the Western Art Collector magazine, The Gallery, The Red Bluff Western Art Show & Sale, the Western Artists of America Show & Sale, the Raymar Art Competition, the Top 100 Paint the Parks Competition & Show, the Outdoor Painter Society’s Plein Air Southwest Show, and the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center.  Steve’s works are included in collections across the U.S & Europe.

He lives in Prescott, Arizona with his wife, Ann.
