Aaron Schuerr

Aaron Schuerr

Aaron Schuerr studied at the Institute of Chicago and an art college in Scotland. At his graduation in Scotland in 1995 he sold out his degree show, and moved to Montana, where he became a full-time professional artist in 2004.

Aaron says his art is borne out of his struggle to absorb, comprehend, and understand the natural world. And so, he paints.  Then he returns to his studio and paints something bigger, in order to digest what he’s experienced while painting in the field.   Painting is never lonely because he can share the beauty of what he sees with others.  The heart of his work is in the outdoors, absorbing the pattern of light on the landscape.  The open air is his stage, and in the best moments, he is lost in it.

He is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, the American Impressionist Society, and West Coast Pastel Society.  He has received numerous awards including recently 2016 Best Pastel from Plein Air Magazine and in 2015 First Place in the Pastel Society of the West Coast and the Annual Mile High International Show.  In 2013 he won the Award of Excellence from the American Impressionist Society.

He has been featured in major art publications and in 2015 wrote a series of columns for The Pastel Journal.

He is an artist, writer, actor, husband, and father of three wonderful boys.
