Spieler Award Winners

POSTED: Tuesday, April 24, 2018

The Bosque Arts Center offers its deepest congratulations and gratitude to Cleon and Carolyn Flanagan, recipients of the Joan Spieler Lifetime Achievement Award.  Named after the BAC’s founder, the Spieler recognizes exceptional, longtime volunteer efforts on behalf of the Arts Center—which the Flanagans most definitely have done.  They have been active and passionate members of BAC for more than 20 years, having joined in 1996.  Cleon’s first involvement was in the Tin Building Theatre, where he has appeared in several productions in the past two decades, some alongside Carolyn, as well as serving on the TBT Board.  Cleon then served on the BAC board from 2004-07.  Cleon’s board involvement, including a partial term as president, coincided with the renovation and expansion of the BAC complex, in which he was greatly involved.  He represented the board to the general contractor and subcontractor, spending untold hours for some six months to help meet project deadlines.  In addition to his leadership on the renovation, Cleon volunteered his considerable skills in woodworking and construction on various projects, including the installation of wood flooring in the dance studio, with other volunteers. His expertise has also been used to construct folding table caddies and storage devices for BAC, and designing and constructing the gallery benches and pedestals, among other projects.  Cleon and Carolyn have devoted their time and talents to the Bosque Civic Music Association and Bosque Chorale--where Cleon sings—and the Culinary Club--where Carolyn lends her expertise—as well as the Art Patrons, TBT Patrons, and the Bosque Artisan Guild.

Thank you and congratulations, Cleon and Carolyn!
