Jim Norton

Jim Norton

Jim Norton was born in Utah and grew up in western Wyoming, learning of ranch life, work, and traditions.  He was surrounded by the beauty and drama of the west.   His education in art began as a youngster watching his grandfather paint in his basement studio.   Jim continued his art education at Western Wyoming College and Brigham Young University. He has furthered his informal education by traveling to museums in Russia, Canada and the United States.  “If you want to be a great artist, you can learn from the masters themselves and the museums are full of them.”

He is world renowned for his renditions of western art and depictions of historical and modern life in the west.  His painterly use of color brings life to the stunning vistas portrayed within his art. Jim particularly loves to express his personal experiences living and traveling through the west working with cowboys and Native Americans.

His art has been included in several major museums, exhibitions and sales, as well as art publications.  Jim has received many honors and was invited to become a member of the Cowboy Artists of America in 1989. At the 2010 CAA show Jim received the Stetson CAA Award for his body of work and a Gold Medal for Oil Painting for The Lifetime.

He resides with his wife, Pam, and their four children in Santaquin, Utah.
