Greg Kelsey

Greg Kelsey

Greg Kelsey grew up in Oklahoma with a mother who was an art teacher and encouraged his artistic efforts. He also attended school in El Paso, including the University of Texas at El Paso, where he met and worked occasionally for an orthodontist who not only utilized Greg’s steady hand in the dental lab, but also introduced him to sculpture.  After two years of college, however, he dropped out to become a cowboy.  Sometime afterward, though, he signed up for classes at Fort Lewis College, met his wife, and purchased land in the country.

In 2000, Greg accepted an artist in residence gig in Utah, with a new gallery promoting his work.  While Greg’s sculptures enjoy the limelight at prestigious shows and galleries, and he gathers his share of honors, he shies away from spending too much time comparing notes with other artists.  Instead, he prefers to focus on his own visions and expectations.  He was awarded the Best Sculpture Award at the Eiteljorg Museum Quest for the Best Shows in both 2015 and 2016, as well as the Best Sculpture Award by the Traveling the West Show & Sale in 2015.  These are only a few of his numerous awards.  He also was recently inducted as one of 22 inaugural members in the prestigious Russell Skull Society of Artists by the C.M. Russell Museum.

Greg lives with his wife Terah and two children in Durango, CO.  His work is represented by the Montana Trails Gallery in Bozeman, MT, the Settlers West Gallery in Tucson, AZ , and the Sorrel Sky Galleries in Durango, CO, and Santa Fe, NM.
