Books on the Bosque

POSTED: Tuesday, October 9, 2018

On November 9-10, the Bosque Arts Center is excited to be bringing back Books on the Bosque after an eleven year absence. With a dozen authors which will appeal to all ages, 2018 Books on the Bosque promises to be a treat for readers and writers across the spectrum.

Friday evening, November 9, the weekend will kick off with our “Dinner with the Authors.”  Wine and visiting with the authors will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner prepared by the Four Forks.  Reavis Wortham, author of the Red River historical mystery series and the Sonny Hawke contemporary thriller series, will be our after-dinner speaker.

Saturday morning from 9:00-11:00 a.m. is free for children under 10 and one accompanying adult.  The morning will focus on our youngest to young adult readers with six authors.  One of our authors is an award-winning storyteller and one-man band, another a non-fiction award-winning author who will entertain our young adults with her newest book, Bonnie and Clyde. Yet another will use his book How to Draw Stuff by giving everyone a drawing lesson.  Paper and pencil will be provided.  We expect some adults will enjoy this class as well. Children’s/ Teen/YA authors at the event are Karen Blumenthal, Jan Peck, Tom McDermott, Christine Ford, Scott Sutton, and Michelle Staubach Grimes.

Saturday from 11:15 - 5:00 will focus on our adult book lovers.  Author Ann Weisgarber will begin with a review of her book The Personal History of Rachel DuPree, which is currently being made into a major motion picture.   The afternoon has a line-up of authors for every taste, whether laughter or drama.  Lisa Wingate will review Before We Were Yours, which has been on the New York Times bestseller list well over six months.  Stephen Harrigan, bestselling author of A Friend to Mr. Lincoln and Remember Ben Clayton, will discuss his latest, They Came from the Sky.  Authors Kari J. Rich and Anna Mitchael will bring a healthy dose of humor to the afternoon.  Lunch, prepared by the Four Forks, is included in the ticket price.

Also, concurrently we will have a Writer’s Workshop.  Topics include “Lessons on Writing” and “Elements for the First Three Pages, Character Bios, and 25 Common Plots.”  This workshop will be taught by authors Reavis Wortham and Ann Weisgarber, respectively. The workshop will conclude with a question and answer session led by Lisa Wingate.

Books by these authors will be on sale in the gift shop at the Bosque Arts Center beginning in October and on through the holiday season. Authors will be available the day of the event to personalize your purchases and if your purchase is a gift, we will include free gift wrapping.

Brochures may be picked up at libraries in Bosque County, as well as surrounding counties, and are available at the Bosque Arts Center.  For more information contact the Bosque Arts Center at 254-675-3724.
