Steve Schmidt Retirement Reception
POSTED: Tuesday, July 7, 2026
Steve Schmidt, the Bosque Arts Center's Building Manager (as well as light and sound engineer par excellence), has retired as of May 2026. Steve says he'll still be around to volunteer for plays or concerts (as he has since 1982), but we plan to celebrate him with a grand send-off on Saturday, July 11, from 2 to 4 p.m.
For 17 years, Steve has been the go-to for building maintenance as well as event setup and take down--which included not only moving tables, chairs, and Christmas trees. He has also handled front-of-house sound and lighting for events dating back to his days as a volunteer in the 80’s. Long before he served as an employee of the BAC, Steve volunteered his talents for TBT, Big Event, Art Classic, and many other events.
A charter member of Tin Building Theatre, Steve manned the light and sound booth for every production in its first 20 years and has remained a primary sound tech—44 years in all. In the early 90’s, he designed and secured financing for a new lighting system in the TBT, then took two weeks off from work to install it. He also took time to appear onstage at TBT alongside his mother, Joy, and his wife, Dianne. He starred in such TBT hits as The Trip to Bountiful, The Odd Couple, The Diary of Anne Frank, and Bosque County, Texas (the last rendition of which he directed as well as starred).
Steve was honored for his volunteerism in April 2009 with the Arts Center’s Spieler Lifetime Achievement Award. Not long after that, the BAC offered him part-time employment to share his talents in even more areas. He has kept our filters and lights changed, drains unclogged, stages lit, and singers heard for years now, and for that we wish him a very rewarding retirement.
Please join us on Saturday, July 11, at the BAC between 2 and 4 p.m. Come and go, or come and stay as we celebrate Steve.
