Pottery Guild

The Pottery Guild is an informal network of ceramic artists living in the Central Texas area who are committed to sharing a passion for clay. Members can focus on growing creatively while being a part of a larger clay community. Guild dues of $150 annually will be used for maintenance and purchase of supplies and equipment and to offset firing costs. The group will sponsor field trips to galleries, shows, and studios; arrange for workshops featuring well-known potters; and periodically offer classes.

The studio is restricted to use by members and class and/or workshop attendees. It is equipped with electric wheels, slab roller, extruder, electric and gas kilns, molds, and glazes. Members will purchase clay from the Guild supply of Cone 6-Cone 10 Stoneware. Tools are also available for purchase.

Members must be 18 years or older as well as active members of the Bosque Arts Center. Hours for work in studio coincide with hours of operation for Arts Center unless otherwise arranged.

If you are interested in knowing more about the programs please call the Bosque Arts Center at 254-675-3724 and they will have a member of the Guild contact you.

Pottery Guild News

Paul McCoy Conducts Workshop

Paul McCoy, Head of Ceramics Department at Baylor University held a one day workshop for twelve members of the Pottery Guild on Saturday, April 20, 2013. All levels of potters were instructed in a variety of methods and techniques involving wheel throwing plates, platters, bowls, and applying thick slips to enhance the surfaces. It was a highly informative as well as enjoyable day. Participants left vowing to practice the techniques and hoping to have McCoy return in the fall to conduct a workshop in glazing and firing the gas kiln.

The Guild was pleased to see the article and wonderful photos recognizing the wood-turning talents of member, Steve Longino in the recent issue of Bosque Living. Steve along with other Guild members have pieces available in the BAC gift shop and the Bosque County Emporium in historic downtown Clifton.

“Clay 101,” a beginning hands-on class with a limit of seven students will be offered in September with dates and time to be announced. If you are interested in participating, call the BAC office and add your name to the list.

The BAC Pottery Guild members are automatically members of the Bosque Valley Artisan Guild with the following missions:  to foster a vital artisan craft community; to encourage professional development of its members through programming, exhibition opportunities, workshops, and sales venues; and to educate the public about artisan crafts and local artisans. There are currently twenty-six members.

The combined Guilds will meet in June (tba) to discuss plans for the coming year. If you are interested in learning about the members skills and becoming involved, please contact the BAC office for additional information 254-675-3724.
