April 20-May 25, 2013

The BAC Photo Guild hosted the opening reception for their photo shows on Saturday, April 20, at 5 PM in the gallery of the Arts Center.  Attendees enjoyed refreshments and voted on the Popular Choice Award for both shows.  Prizes were awarded to all the winners that evening.  The estimated attendance was 125 people.

The BC Photography Show, sponsored by The Clifton Record, the Meridian Tribune, and First Security State Bank, had 342 entries from 31 artists.  Thirty-five prints from 16 of those artists were chosen to hang in the photography exhibit.

The Student Show, which was sponsored by Gearench and Promit, had 157 photos entered by 43 students. The accepted photos from that show will be matted and hung outside the Photography Gallery on the second floor of the Arts Center.

Simone Wicher-Voss was the judge for this year’s Bosque County Photography Contest.
Simone was born and raised in Nigeria, West Africa, and began her professional career in the Netherlands, where she worked for an international fashion retailer.  In 2010 she married and moved to Bosque County, where she became editor and reporter/photographer for the Meridian Tribune.  In her present position, she has won awards for news photography and feature writing.

As a news photographer, Simone is “always looking for the shot that captures the moment.”  As an artistic photographer, she looks for lines, light, color and depth of her subject.

Elisabeth Montgomery, an art instructor for over 35 years, judged the student contest.  Montgomery has recently returned to Clifton and begun to teach art and weaving classes at the BAC.  She says, “to encourage a child or adult to find their own unique ‘voice’ through art is a thrill.”
